I have a dead computer. A friend will let me plug in my hd to his. I will have an external hd shortly. My new computer has win 7 64 bit. Remembering I am no geek, how can I use easy transfer to get as much of my old info onto the new computer as possible???

Hi steelebob, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

You won't be able to use the Windows Easy Transfer application to transfer programs and settings unless you have the source computer up and running. Since you said that the hard drive is plugged into your friend's computer then why not just transfer the data from that drive onto your external hard drive once you get it. It would save time since you could directly copy the files that you want to save to the external hard drive.
