Something curious has developed. I have full Administrator Status yet when I go into Documents, Folders: "My Photos, My Music" and a few others have padlock Icons on them. When I click on them to open I get "Access Denied ". This wasn't so when I first got my new Dell computer.

I have run my Zone Alarm Anti-malware deep scan and it found nothing. I have run Spybot Search and Destroy and it has found nothing. How did these folders get locked? What can I do to regain access to them?

    TIA

    Brian

Right click on the folder in question and choose Run as Administrator and see what happens. I know you say you have Admin rights, but try it anyways.

Bill, you can use the Run As Administrator option to only run actual programs or .exe files. That Run as Administrator option does not apply to folders. Brian needs to take ownership of the folders in order to gain access to them even though he has an account with full admin rights.

Your right. Was in a hurry to go feed my face as my stomach thought that my throat had been cut. I know that you can't do that with a folder.

I tried this and it worked for the folders under my username. But the other folders: default user... have "everyone" as the owner and there are two security entries for "everyone" the top entry for "everyone" is "deny list and read" and then the "everyone" entry under that one gives "everyone" full control. The system doesn't let me take ownership of these "default user" folders.

On the folder with my username I'm able to access but the padlock icon is still there. The folder for "All Users" turns out to be a short cut and it points to "D:\Program Files" Drive D: is my cd/dvd. Something really ******* this up.

Are you trying to "get into" a junction point?

An NTFS junction point is a feature of the NTFS file system that provides the ability to create a symbolic link to a folder which then functions as an alias of that folder. In other words, it doesn't "contain" anything because it's simply a pointer to a real folder somewhere.
