Firefox trying to open everything

I do not remember what I was doing, but the open with window came up, which I really hate because I usually have no idea what I am supposed use. Anyway, I chose firefox, but did not uncheck the always use this to open. Now everything I try to open tries to open with firefox, which means I cannot open anything. How do I correct this problem?

Thanks,
Russ

My System

Run EXE File Association Fix: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm
It's listed for XP, but I suppose, it should work on 2K.

Note. Since Win2K doesn't have System Restore...
I recommend, you use Erunt: http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/
Manual: http://pcug.org.au/boesen/ERUNT/ERUNT.htm
In my opinion, it's better, then System Restore, and I use it on all my Windows versions.

Hi broni

I clicked on the file association fix, although I am not sure what I am supposed to do with it other than unzip it, which I did. Then I downloaded the ERUNT, and looked at the manual, but again, not sure what to do.

My System

After unzipping, double click on xp_exe_fix.reg, and allow registry merge.
Restart computer.

Did you install ERUNT?

I saw the deal about the registry merge, but did not restart since that was not in the original instructions. Yes, I did download and install ERUNT, but firefox is trying to open it also.

Leave ERUNT alone until exe problem is fixed.
Restart computer.

Please, forget my previous question about System Restore.
I guess, I wasn't thinking.

I don't have any other advice for now. I'll keep looking.
