When booting up my wife's PC, a splash window always opens :
stisvc.exe - Application Error. The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application."
Clicking on OK makes the window disappear and the PC appears to operate as normal, using Windows 2000.
A google search suggests that the error message is to do with Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service. But why is the error occurring and how do I cure it?
(We may not have any need for WIA on that PC if it has anything to do with securing images from a digital camera - such a camera has never been attached to that PC and never will be. We use my PC for that purpose.)
Any help would be appreciated.
