Win 2000 Pro does not recognize CD drives

I am having problems after an upgrade from Windows 98 SE to Windows 2000 Professional. The problem, I believe, has to do with the Sony CD drive. Here is what happened. I installed Win 200 Pro with a few minor problems. After the install, I installed the service pack and the diagnostic tools pack. Everything worked. The system recognized the original CD drive and the Sony CD drive. Both drives are IDE drives. I tried to run the software for the Sony drive. The software was BS Recorder Gold and BS Clip. After I removed the software, the system will not recognize either CD drive. I downloaded the disgnostic tool, but it would not run because it can not recognize the CD drives on the system. There is power to the drives and if I open the drive door it opens with no problems. The drives show up in the Device Manager, but they indicate that there is an error 19. The text for that error is that the registry might be corrupted. I looked on the Microsoft web site for this problem. The closest thing I can find is an error when removing CD software. They directed me to go to the registry and remove the entry of the upper limit and lower limit. These registry entries did not exist. The registry entries are as follows:

From everything I can understand, I believe that when I removed the software for the Sony CD, something was changed in the registry. This caused the problem where neither CD drives could be used. Can you help me resolve this problem?

Thanks

The "4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318" represents, I believe, a specific user account.

My suggestion would be to remove both devices from device manager, shut down, remove them from the PC.

Boot back up and - to be super safe - create a new user account and add it to the local administrator group.

Shut down, put the drives back in, and start up again. Login as you new user account.

I think the CD drives should be recognized again at this point.

I tried to sign on as a new user...no luck. Also, I tried to disconnect the devices, delete them from the device manager, and reboot. Same error.

I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version for thios PC. Still no luck...

This is getting really frustrating!!!
