W2K Server No Longer Works After Re-Boot

Help! I am having a problem that I think is similar to the one that Newt is helping alancello out in his thread.

I have a W2K server with SP4 and Roll-up installed. It is running SQL Server 2000 and an ASP.net web-based application.

The server was shut down for a week. When it was turned back on, there was a notice that MS patches were available. I checked the box that said "download now" - but nothing seemed to happen.

After performing some basic maintenance on the server (defrag with Executive Software), the server started to behave strangely. When I re-booted the server, one of two things happened. Either everything would boot up fine EXCEPT for my database application and f-Prot anti-virus software. OR, my database and AV software would start, but none of my desktop icons would show up and I would be unable to access Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer. Sometimes I would loose my active desktop. I am able to ping Google, so I know I have Internet connectivity.

I followed Newt's procedure to clear my event logs in safe mode, then booted in normal mode, encountered the usual errors, then re-booted in safe mode to capture the errors. In the following message I will post all the errors I found in the System Log and the Application Log. I realize that many of these errors are probably not an issue since they are either (1) caused by all the unsuccessful re-boots I have attempted or (2) a result that I do not use the service (FTP, remote access). I include them all to make sure I do not miss anything relevant.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could look at these and see if they can spot the problem.

Thank you in advance!

Thank you Windux,

Your link is a great resource that I now have bookmarked for future use. I have started reviewing these errors and so far, none of them seem serious enough to be causing my problems. I will let you know what I find out.

Chip
