I have the white windows icon in the lower left-hand corner but clicking on it
    does nothing (right-click is working).

This is a PC with no touch screen.

This is not a tablet so tablet mode is turned off.

Taskbar>personalize has no Start Menu tab (like some sites will show this tab).

Searching for this condition only gives a headache, lots of conflicting options
but none i can find that will bring back the Start Screen.

Anyone got a fix (other that a recovery) or can point me to some help?

    thanks,

Never mind! I reinstalled OS from a USB recovery stick (worked quite well).

This action brought back the Start Screen.

    Marking this thread as closed.

    thanks,

Ignore the "solved" entry above, it worked for a short time then quit.

The Start Screen has disappeared again, along with the Start Menu Tab from
    the task bar>personalize screen.

I don't have a touch screen monitor but i should be able to see the windows
10 start screen with all the tiles on it or has MS stopped letting this happen?

The web says MS removed the start menu tab from the taskbar>personalize screen.

    Is this true?

    thanks,

Hi clif, Right click on clear part of Task bar > Task Manager > Scroll down to Windows Explorer > Right click on WE > Menu > Restart. Does that restore Start Menu? Neil.

    ok, it disappeared again.

Tried the task manager>WE as you suggested - no effect.

    I found this command "Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth ",
again, no effect, no start screen.

    Any other suggestions, anyone?

    thanks, Neil,

You have Windows 8 or 10?

I'm not sure I understand your problem.

There is no such tab on either Windows 8 or 10 'Taskbar and Navigation properties'

You may want to show a picture what you mean by the "Start Screen ".

That command is used to repair a Windows Image, not to resolve Windows problems.

    Ok, thanks for clarifying.

By the Start Screen, do you mean the full start screen as in: Make Start full screen?

    Neil,

    Tried all that.

    no response .

    new notifications = no response.

tablet mode "On" full screen "On ".

really, only response i get is when i reboot sys tablet mode is reset to "Off ".

Thats OK, this little problem is not a show-stopper. I can live without it. Maybe
someday MS will fix it. I'm marking this thread closed and moving on to
    other things.

    Thanks for the help tho,

I assume that your issue is really the Lock Screen if I understand you correctly. If so you mean the screen you have to push up to log on? I had this problem once. If you are using a High contrast theme then change to a normal theme first, then go to Start-Settings-Personalization-Lock Screen and choose a different picture. I hope this helps.
