I do not have notification to download Windows 10 Professional. Please see the attached Microsoft popup I received when requesting a status update, via the Windows Icon in my tray.

Hi NeverBoring, The last sentence tells the story. If you have a validated W7 Pro or W8.1 Pro current OS - your Upgrade will be W10 Pro and you will receive a further notification from MS when it's ready to install.
You will be able to decide the time and day to suit you.
    I have upgraded from W7 Pro 64bit to W10 Pro 64bit as well as W8.1 Pro 64bit to W10 Pro 64bit.
My HP Notebook has gone from W8.1 Home to W10 Home all flawless upgrades. Hope this answers your query. Neil.

I am feeling a bit left out and left behind. Others have the opportunity to upgrade, why not me?

Because - like my PC - yours isn't ready.

I decided to use the download... but guess what? No working network drivers. I downloaded the Win10 drivers from Realtek, but never got my network to work, whatever 'fix' I tried...

I just reimaged my drive back to Win8.1

I have 5 systems here and 1 is still waiting for the update. Microsoft said it would take several weeks to roll it out to the estimated 1 billion W7 and W8.1 systems worldwide.

The 4 I have that were updated went well.

A friend with 4 computers is still waiting, or rather waiting again for his Samsung 8.1 notebook to upgrade. His other 3 computers, including his wife's nearly identical Samsung 8.1 notebook already upgraded with no problems. He got impatient with his notebook so manually upgraded via the ISO download and it failed miserably. So he too rolled back to 8.1 and is now patiently waiting for the offer.

BTW, I have not heard of any case where someone did not get the right version. So if you have W7 Pro now, I see no reason why you will not get W10 Pro.

My only advice is to make sure you keep your current Windows fully updated. If Windows Update is not set to automatically download and install, then manually check for updates at least once daily and it will come.

It would be interesting to know what criteria is used by Microsoft to upgrade a specific computer. I can understand brand name grouping. However, even then, the computer may have been customized. There are millions, if not billions of hardware combinations. No human is simply checking each PC. The algorithm must be a kilometer long. Or more realistically, "yes/no" series. It is amazing how it is accomplished.

I am perfectly happy with Windows 7 Pro and can now relax and patiently wait for my notice.

Not me! Not even, no way! What brand would get to go first? Acer because it is the first letter of the alphabet? Or Dell because they paid Microsoft more money? Or Lenova because they sell more PCs worldwide?

    And what about self-builds?

No way for any of those. The only fair way is geographically and that is what they did. It is done in "waves" regionally around the world. But not entire regions at once as that would overload and crash the major carriers, blocking access to critical government, military and emergency services networks.

I don't think the algorithm would need to be too complex either. It just cycles through the time zones and then randomly picks up computers as they connect.

    Hi Arie,
On Nov 23, same here. Loads of pluses and some minuses.

    Thanks for the update.
