    Hello all,
Sorry that I haven't been on WindowsBBS for long.

Recently, I bought myself a Surface Pro 3, and I am just getting used to Windows 8.1.
If I take the upgrade and say I don't like Windows 10, can I revert it back to Windows 8.1?

    Thanks.

    Antony.

Do you have any other questions or would you consider this thread resolved?

    Hi Terminator,
I think you miss the point. A PC can scratch the harddrive installed with a Windows 10 and re-install with a Windows 7 or 8.1. But, the key point is the Product Key. You MAY need to BUY a new one, once it is used to Reserve a Windows 10.

I was looking thru Recovery option to reset the pc and it says you only have 30 days to revert back to Win 8. So I cleaned and reset my pc, it then said once you reset there is no going back to 8. FYI
    I do like win10

As long as you have a valid product key then you should be able to re-activate your older version of Windows once you've downgraded from Windows 10. If it doesn't activate then you may need to call Microsoft about it but I doubt you will have to buy a new product key.

    Anthony,
I upgraded to Windows 10 Friday, 7/31. There is an option in the Win 10 "Settings" to go back to 8.1.

    Thank you.

According to Windows 10 Q&A page,
The option to revert back is only available for one month.

    Also from Surface support page,
Since Surface Pro 3 does not come with Windows 8.1 disc, I take that Restore factory settings is the only option. And I will lose all my documents/applications (to get back to Windows 8.1 Pro)?

So if I take the upgrade plunge, the option of reverting back to Windows 8.1 are:
do so within 30 days; or
(after 30 days) and lose every applications and documents (and all other settings).
    Am I correct on this?

Can't you save all your Files etc. on the 'Cloud Storage' as offered by MS? Neil.

    I can, but I don't.
So after one month, I will need to restore my documents and applications?

You only have a month to restore to your previous version of Windows. So if Windows 10 is running fine then you can leave it as is.

    Thank you.

Since I've only had my Surface Pro 3 for less than 1 month, I will play around Windows 8.1 Pro a bit longer before deciding on Windows 10. I did not have any machines running Windows 8/8.1 before Surface. (My main computers are still Mac.)
