As much fuss as the public has made about the new Windows 8/10 interface, it looks like someone from Redmond would finally get message and create a user interface for the rest of us that love the XP/7 experience.

I cannot get used to Windows 8 no matter have many customizations I make.

I think you've still got about 6½ years to get your head around W8.1 and W10 before W7 starts to expire. Better EARLY than LATE. ;)
Remember there is an offer of FREE update. Neil.

If I remember correctly, version 10 will require a yearly subscription?

Is so, what do they mean by a free update?

Shoot, I just now got used to 7. :)

Edit: My brother loaned me a broken 7 laptop (bad screen and no charger). With his permission, I *could* go for the free update after I reinstall 7 (has a virus, and is full of junk), but the laptop is only a dual-core Celeron with 3 gb of memory. I found a charger for $8.00, and I will test the board via it's VGA port (no HDMI :() after I clean up the junk, but I have doubts that Windows 10 would run on it. Might be worth a try though.

Anyone contemplating a move to Windows 10 may want to check this out...

If I read the article correctly, it sounds as if home users may not be able to opt out of unwanted updates...

Windows 10 will offer three routes for receiving updates: Current Branch (CB), Current Branch for Business (CBB), and Long Term Servicing Branch (LTSB). CB automatically updates devices with zero choice on the user side. CBB will permit users to delay or even reject updates. LTSB is relevant for Enterprise users only. Windows 10 Home users will be subject to CB, while users of the Pro version will be able to choose between the CB and CBB update route.

I'll go the route that I've always gone: Windows XP Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate and now of course Windows 10 Professional.

So, upgrading from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 enables you to qualify for Current Branch for Business (CBB) update scheme?

James: I inadvertently omitted Windows 8.1 Professional from my list.

Reading your posts, it is best to await outcome after 29th July 2015, and see what is the best deal. To think that 1 million people have tested Windows 10 for free, reporting valuable information, Microsoft should be less greedy or at least more helpful -that is modern business.
Retiredlearner, I clipped your caption, unfortunately it freezes window.

    Hi Bobby,
This is the 'nub' of the report, the "excluded" section will not worry the Home User. I have 4 comps which qualify to have W10 installed 'FREE' so I will be able to report when this happens.

Interesting read Neil. I'll miss the DVDs and of course Windows 7 version of Solitaire.

Its kind of very fluid now with nobody (even MS) not sure of what's going to happen with Win 10 updates. Won't bother with it for 3-4 months. Let the dust settle first.

I wonder how easy it will be to accidentally delete the contents of the flash drive?

    Been there, done that.

What gives Microsoft the right to share my Wi-Fi key. What happened to their stand on security. You should have to opt-in not opt-out. After all it's my call whether I want to share anything with anyone not Microsoft's.
