Currently the latest build available is 9860.

    • The latest build will come to you automatically via the magic of Windows Update. For most of you this means in the middle of the night (as long as your PC is plugged in and either on or sleeping) it will be downloaded and installed for you. Note that Windows Update will not automatically download the new build over metered networks.
    • Can’t wait? You can go to PC Settings, Update and recovery, Preview builds and click the Check Now button to go get it now.

Where will it install itself? Can't imagine it would install over my current OS.

On a Partition which you have Windows Preview installed on or a dedicated HDD which I have.
Previous advice is not to install Preview to an operating OS as if there is a crash - you'll lose your current OS Data/Files. Neil.

It came to my old Windows 7 Windows Update. I let it run three times overnight. But it's failed seen from the Update History. Microsoft Fix It run but nothing improved.

Now it's running the fourth time and it's saying "Installing updates... {no progress on the bar} Installing update 1 of 1... Upgrade to Windows Technical Preview "

    What's wrong?

Are you signed in as an 'Insider' and have the Preview ISO? Neil.

Doc, this is from your link:
My understanding all along is that you must become an "INSIDER ".
I will stand to be corrected if this is not the answer for IvanH. Neil.

Did I? Really can't remember. Always click, click and click. Do we have a real choice other than "Agree "?

Actually, it's from Windows Update on an old notebook. I found it much easier to install the WIndows 10 TP .iso image on a virtual machine.

Still couldn't get it through when I let it run over days and nights.

    Any idea?

Did you try downloading and installing it directly?

As far as "What's wrong?/Any idea?" goes, it's still under active development ... with bugs, problems etc. to be resolved. That's why they say "Use at your own risk ". ;)

It's much easier to install Windows 10 TP as a virtual machine though RAM is an issue. The tiles with Start menu is so boring. One of the few things I like (since Windows 7) is the Task Manager where I can see different network traffic for WiFi and Ethernet. It's better than the "most advanced OS" (i.e. OS X Yosemite) where Network traffic is just what its name suggested. The PIN, other than other login options from password, Microsoft Account or fingerprint, is convenient but... why not just allow a 4-digit password?
Energy management is still... a pre-Windows 7 / legacy version....

What surprises can I expect from Windows 10 TP?
