I have these folders that pops up on my drives with long names of numbers and letters like "01a436d109f250b9c43a "

Inside are 2 folders named: "i386" and "amd64 ", and files like: "print filter pipeline proxy ", "security catalog" and other dll

I also have a ".trash-1000" folder that as pop up.

Anyone know what these are and how to get rid of 'em if they aren't any good?

They are probably left over from installing .net stuff..You should be able to right click and Delete.

Thanks for replying, on my portable I did, but in the documents folder access is denied. Do you know how to "run as administrator" on XP? these are on my laptop.

The account I am using has administrator privileges.

Even from this "Administrator" account access is still denied. I guess will have to ignore these files. There only 12Mb. Kinda wanted to make sure wasn't some malware or something nasty.

    Thanks anyway.

Taking ownership either fails or it still not enough. It's ok I'll do it from Fedora ounce I get installed.

I'm going to leave it unsolved for now, at least until I get rid of these folders.

    Thanks for the effort.

Installed Ubuntu and deleted the folders from there.

I've also been confronted with "access denied" when trying to delete unwanted stuff and I've overcome it with an application called 'Unlocker' which I downloaded from fileshippo. I queried it on this site to see if it's ok and apparently it is. It's logo is a magic wand and the latest version is 1.8.8. That might help you.
