Weird... Everything was going usual. I shut off my pc for about 10 minutes, log back on and my Anti-Virus shows that C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger is infected by a Win32/VMalum.BXRF virus..

I tried using google to look for solutions but nothing came up. UNBELIEVABLE..

    This must be something new.

I haven't visited any weird websites that I don't usually visit. I DON'T EVEN USE Msn messenger anymore... so how could this of happened?

Anyone have a clue on what's going on?

    Win32/VMalum.BXRF windows live messenger problem.

I just had the same proplem occur to me on my computer. Windows live messenger was working perfectly normal yesterday and when i got home this afternoon msn was partialy uninstalled, so i tried to reinstall but my virus protection was stopping me.

I froze my virus protection, installed the program and it works fine except i keep getting a msg popping up from my anti-virus saying that C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exe is infected by Win32/VMalum.BXRF.

What virus protection are you all using with this problem???

    Mine is CA.

win32/vmalum.??? is the identification for items that CA quarantines for virus-like behaviour as opposed to those identified via signatures.

What this probably means is that CA tweaked their algorithms and MSN Messenger fell foul of the changes rather than it actually being infected.

There are those that would argue that MSN is a virus :D

This must be a CA problem from the lates update

I am using win vista and i haven't had any windows updates in a while that i know of. CA anti-virus updates automatically every time i turn the computer back on.

just updated my msn now to the latest version (8.5)...
CA antivirus kept popping up saying "infected "... this time I got a pop up saying "infected" and then saying "quarantined "...
MSN is up and working ok...
updating msn seems to solve the problem in my case...

OK, I assume the problem has something to do with the CA update this morning. Probably they've included some updates regarding the new version on MSN. Those who couldn't bother to update their MSN (like me) may be the problem sufferers. Updating to the latest version of MSN seems to do me the trick. I am not getting anymore popups and both CA and MSN seem to be working fine again.

Hope it works for you

I'm using CA Anti Virus and got MSN messenger Quarantined when returning to this computer this morning.
I updated MSN and CA does not complain about Messenger. Messenger works now.
