Dac.exe is frequently trying to access the internet. I have no idea what it is and 'search' gives no info in the properties. I always block it...does anyone know what it is?

I tried google, too but I still don't know what it is and why it would try to access the internet. Google talks about dac but it does not say what it is....I have no idea what it is and properties tell me nothing...should I delete it? It says something about prefetch and I don't know what that is either. I think I will just get rid of it as I don't trust MS when they keep something a mystery. Maybe MS is trying to get into my computer???

No...it is not the atomic clock. Google mentions SQL and server and transactions.
I have no idea what SQL is and I don't think there is any such thing on my computer...I do not have a server and I have no idea what they mean by transactions or a prefetch.
It tries to access the internet whenever I run a 'self test' on my UPS...but I always block it. I think I will try to find it and uninstall it.

I use XP and Zone Alarm Pro and I got this, too. When I got the ZA popup, there was also a link for the properties of the program. On my box, dac.exe is part of the APC PowerChute software, specifically PowerChute Personal Edition 2.0 for Win2000/XP. Since I trust APC, I decided to trust this particular process.

Online info is very sketchy but I'm wondering if it doesn't pertain to the reporting aspect of the data collection function. Thus, it doesn't show up continually among the running processes. If you're running PowerChute, you might try unchecking that box and see if it stops popping up.

Thanks very much...that solves it...I do have PowerChute Personal Edition 2.0 for Win2000/XP and dac pops up whenever I run a check on it.... I will allow it because I also trust APC....:D
