    Not Helped !!

I tried all the three steps suggested in the post #6, but still neighther update rollup 2 installs nor mediacenter stops showing 'decoder error'.

What should I do next ?

    thanks !

N.B. ONly one update fails to install, i.e. update rollup 2 for media center (KB 900325), other updates istall well, even through automatic update option as well as on manual download.

Others with the same problem .....

    http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=519754 - a possible solution posted.

You cannot install some updates or programs - MS KB

One other approach would be to download KB900325 directly from the Download Centre and install it manually.

Also read the Notes under More information here ...

Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

There is some evidence on the web that IE 7 is the source of the problem. If you have IE 7 uninstall it through Add/Remove Programs - you will roll back to IE 6. If successful in installing the update re-install IE 7.

Installation successfull, but video decoder error still persists !

Installation of update rollup 2--KB 900325-- ssuccessfull, I dont know how ! Before this successfull attept, two things happened.
    1. I removed the folder 'Sdold' from my Windows directory, which was created by renaming 'softwaredistribution' folder there as per the suggestion 1 of the post #6 mentioned above.(I saw a new softwaredistribution folder in the windows and the 'sdold' was engaging my 189mb)
    2. At least seven updates were installed automatically--KB numbers I could not remember.

BUT THEN, MY MEDIA CENTER PROBLEM IS STILL AS SUCH--VIDEO DECODER ERROR..... CAN YOU SUGGEST SOME THING FOR THAT ?

    Thanks !

Not offhand - it's not my area of expertise.

Have you looked in Event Viewer for any clues?

I will bump your other thread to the top of the list in the hope that you receive a response.

    Found nothing in event viewer

Event viewer reports only about crashes !
No response in the 'bumped' thread. (http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=69438). Can you move this thread to 'other software' and delete the sherlock's 'long' log ?

That is not so - you will find both info re processes working, problems with processes flagged with a yellow icon and full Errors flagged with a red icon.

I will move your other thread s requested.

Am posting here instead of your other software thread but the simple question would be the same in either case ....... what video card are you using and what drivers have you installed for it?

    ;)
