I am having trouble with some sites that are causing IE6 to freeze .
what can cause this and is it possible to unfreeze IE to close it down as it tends to freeze the computer as well.
I find that clicking on the X in the top rightand corner of the page has no affect and ctrl-alt-delete does not seem to work either, sometimes if i leave it after trying to close it down it will eventually bring up the program not responding box and allow me to eventually close it but not always.
any help would be very welcome many thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info charlesvar as the site recommends not applying the fix at the present time unless severely affected, which i am not i think i will wait for Microsoft to provide a general solution.
I have also installed crazybrowser and so far it has not frozen so i may have a short term solution.
    again many thanks

    Hi alboy,

    crazybrowser uses IE's shell.

If you want to get away from IE completely, it'll have to be something like Firefox or Opera.

I went into the site with IE7 - and went thru all their pages w/o problems. I got an initial ActiveX prompt that I did not allow. Try that, ActiveX could be a culprit here.

    Hi Charles
I have come across that ActiveX as well and have never accepted it, i also rather belatedly realised that crazybrowser was a shell for IE and any problems with one would transfer to the other so not really solving the problem but it was worth a try.

    I have the following running.
    Zonealarm,SpywareDoctor,Norton Antivirus,SpywareGuard,

I have 1024Mb of ram and a AMD 64 Athlon Proccessor,
The PC is showing 654mb being used at the moment.

I have only experienced this problem on a continual basis with the site i have listed so it may be some compatibility issues with that site.
