    Hi:

We are finding out that Vista is different from XP in a lot of ways ! And we are
not savvy enough to locate an answer to a lot of things.

We have a file extension that Windows Media Player is not
    configured to play.

Note: The extension was sent to me by e-mail. Other folks can play the file.
But Windows Media Player in Vista will not.

In XP we opened Windows Explorer, then Tools, then Folder Options, then
File Types and set up the extension.

Where is that capability in Vista ?

    Thanks

Ok for one - but where is total list ?

    Hi:

This works for one file but how do we view the total list of file types
and the associated program that they open with.

When we downloaded Real Player many file types got changed from
Windows Media Player to Real Player.

Want to view list and change some back to Windows Media Player.

So, where is the capability we once had with XP ?

Is it no longer available ?

    Thanks

It's now in Control Panel>Default Programs and click on "Associate a file type or protocol with a program. "

As I recall, Real Player has a list of file types you can associate or disassociate with it in its Options/Preferences/Settings (whatever terminology it uses) by checking/unchecking them.
