I have just acquired a second desktop aimed at learning Vista - Vista Business.

There are several methods posted on the Internet regarding the removal of the shortcut arrows on desktop icons - a feature I thoroughly detest :)

These methods appear to act in different ways - any recommendations/experience as to the 'best' method?

    Delete the IsShortcut registry value

Start regedit > Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTlnkfile

Delete the IsShortcut registry value. You may need to restart Windows XP.

    Worked for me:)

PeteC, did the IsShortcut deleting and there were no side fx whatsoever. It was perfectly safe for me. Matter of fact, today I don't have any icons at all displyed in the desktop. Clean and tidy. :)

Pete, yes when I got my laptop with Vista, I ran into the same warnings. Even though it seemed safe, I didn't want to make some tweak that I couldn't remember a year from now, when I wanted to reverse the effects. I downloaded FXVisor, and it did the operation smoothly. A simple, small interface allows you to choose between no arrow, a small arrow, and a regular arrow (in case you decided you want that shortcut arrow back after all). It was recommended for this purpose by the sites I visited.

Thank you, psaulm119 - I think I'll go for that.
