    You'll get several recommendations I'm sure :)

For my money I prefer Pioneer for DVD burning, but have used LG's satisfactorily on friend's PC's

I use whatever is in the bargain bin of drives. I've had good luck w/ all of them except 1 MadDog burner. Most of the no name brands are made by LiteOn or Samsung anyway, the same parts in brand name cases too.

If your talking software, then I prefer Nero.

    Hi Ron,

If the "best" is what you're looking for, than IMO it's Plextor. I gave my daughter mine last year which I got in Sept. of '01 and still working.

Replaced with a NEC DVD burner more than a year ago and no trouble.

Nowadays I think I'm falling in with Tony's attitude though :)

One reason for that attitude is that I mostly use external HD's for backing up.

    Regards - Charles

I always use Liteon drives myself but if you want the most expensive drive then the
Plextor line is the way to go. The only thing is the newer Plextor drives from what I
have read in reviews and heard form users is they are not quite as reliable as the old
Plextor drives were. Like charlesvar said his was purchased in 01 those were still high
quality drives but like other drive makers have done lately to cut cost the quality of the
drives has gone down hill :( along with the price.
