From an average pc user's perspective, is going to Vista worth it? I would like answers from some of the Microsoft trained gurus here, not from enthusiasts that will get anything just because it's new. Not saying that's bad, just would like the input of trained professionals. I have read so MANY opposing points of view. Some say it's an eye candy XP, some even compare it to ME!(shut my mouth)! As in the disaster that ME was. Come on, there are many wise and trained people on here. Let's have some unbiased facts to help some of us untrained users make an informed decision. Thanks

From an average pc user's perspective, is going to Vista worth it? -> Nope. If your using XP and it's doing the job, there isn't any compelling reason to switch. Not yet ayway....In the near future there will be more and more things (software/hardware) that will only work on Vista...

Thanks for the responses and the link to the other thread. I am a retired truck driver and only became interested in computers, and actually using one on a steady basis, a few years ago, when my wife bought a Dell computer that had Windows ME istalled on it. For a person that had very limited experience on computers, (she did not have much more experience than myself) it was a disaster but it did get me interested. To make a long story short, I finally installed Windows XP on the old Dell and it's still running very well. She uses it every day with no crashes or problems whatsoever. XP was a godsend for that computer. In the meantime I have built a computer, thus the reason for the question. Is Vista worth it? From all my research and the responses I've got here and other forums, I guess I will wait until Vista SP1 or whatever it's gonna be or wait and build a computer just for Vista(maybe by then Nvidia and some others will get their act together). Hope it ain't too long of a wait :) Thanks and best regards, Frank

Would I be advising people to upgrade their current OS to Vista: No.

I'd suggest to get it if you buy a new PC, but wouldn't upgrade a working system.

If your system is capable of running Vista (and I don't mean that it just meets Microsoft's minimum requirements), and you want to have Vista, I'd suggest to wait for SP1.
