Dual booting with MCE - MCE is on Drive 0 Drive/Partition C

Vista is on, depending from where you're looking at it, either on Drive 1 - Drive/Partition D, or looking at it from Vista, Partition C.

If I leave a flash drive plugged in on boot to Vista from the Boot Loader, I get:

Windows failed to start because a recent hardware/software change
    File :\Windows\system32\winload.exe
    status Oxc000000e

Taking out the flash drive and re booting - no problem. Anyone know why this occurs?

Once loaded, using the flash with no problems.

    Regards - Charles

Only thing that comes to mind is checking the boot sequence in the BIOS.

    Hi Steve,

    The boot order:

    USB Floppy
    ROM
    HD
    USB Diskette on Key
    USB HD
    Network Adapter

No problem with booting into MCE with the Flash plugged in.

This is no biggee as long as I know what it is. Rather startling the first time it happened.

I could try re ordering the boot order to see if that has any effect.

    Regards - Charles

Vista manages the boot sequence a bit differently from XP - so I'd suspect that this is the cause of the problem. Also, if you were using a non-Microsoft boot manager when you went to Vista, this information may not have been imported correctly.

Have you had a look at the syntax of BCDEdit? I've seen several problems with how it implements changes to the boot order - mostly because it was changed significantly during the RC phases of development. Recently I've seen 3 different renderings of the syntax with users all using the RTM build. ?Possible bug in the RTM?
