I cannot logon to my Windows 2003 Server even by administrative account. The problem is following: The computer accepts the username and password, however after applying personal settings it very fast takes back to ctrl+alt+del screen.

Please help me to cope with this problem.

    Hello Shant

Welcome to the best The WindowsBBS.

Do you have another Account you can use to test loggon to see if it is your profile only that don't work.

If not continue, if so report back and we will try to repair the original account via this other account.

    Try Safe mode.

If you get to safe mode OK do the following cleanup of Temps.

    Start-Run
    type

cleanmgr /sageset:99 and hit enter select all check boxes and click ok

    next

    type

    cleanmgr /sagerun:99 and hit enter

let it run it could take a long time, you should see disk activity if you have a HD light and may hear the HD as it works.

When it returns to the command prompt
    type
    exit

While in safe mode create a new User (make it Admin rights) call it (say Repair) give it a password.

Do not try the original log on yet, nor full mode

reboot to Safe mode as Repair to let it finish setting up profile

if this works reboot to normal mode with this (Repair) new profile

if you get in reboot once again

and try the original log on

if you get in now the only thing that fixed anything was
    1. just booting Safe Mode itself
    or
    2. the cleanup we did

Now if you can log on in full mode to the new account (but not the original) get back and we will see if we can repair the original accnt.

It is not that, I think!!!

I think it is not that!, Since
    1) I cannot logon even in a safe mode
    2) It normally accepts password
    3) while saving personal setings logoffs immideately
    4) Domain works properly
    5) remoutly I can access hard drives but not processes

    Thanks

Well you should have put all this info in the first place. From here on give details.

To fix this issue you need full log on to the desktop. So!

    OK next.

Go to one of the LAN work stations try this.

    Try to connect via RDP.

If RDP is not specifficlly turned off, or not permited in firewall settings, or Domain config then this should work.

I have in fact seen it work but not in this senario. But I had a case where the 2003 console was not responsive to keyboard etc and was able to do a controlled shutdown via RDP from actually a Remote internet connection.

In Remote Desktop connect to computername or LAN IP.

Use your log on and password

Can you get in this way?

If so do the steps in my first post!!

    Where is the beef, DETAILS?

    OK I will keep digging!!

    RDP using computer name?

    RDP using IP?

Is it a station on the LAN you are using, and not a connection across the internet?

Just what EXACT error or message do you get when you attempt to connect VIA RDP??????????????????????????

Are you trying all User names you know?

If you only have the one username/password then......

if you know someone that has an Admin logon can you get them to try or get their username password? So that you may try it?

When did this begin and were any new software or system changes done right before this happened?

No offence but you state Intermediate Skill level.

But usually:) dealing with server and domain controllers require a higher skill level.

Also it seemed that I had to dig every detail from you.

I have a possible solution but is pretty advanced.

But I need to clear this thru BBS admin.

Better keep check back in later today as my next suggestion need to be run by BBS admin before I continue.

    OK Man!

    I have permission.

Now you need to make a better effort on details if you need help on the below.

    But here goes:

    Go to http://www.ubcd4win.com/

Read up on this project get general understanding.

    Download full UBCD

    Read how to build

    Then

Build it using an XP Install CD with KEY.

    Burn it to CD

    then boot from it

This is a PE boot disk so when you boot it will be booting from the CD itself.

    Install network take defaults

We only want to do a couple of things when it boots to desktop

    Start-Programs-Registry Tools-Registry Restore Wizard

Here you will choose your windows installation should be C:\Windows

Click next as the DOT should be in the circle Fix registry to that of a previous state.

    So click next

Choose a Restore point back to before this happened (before the 5 day shutdown)

    Click next do the restore

Close this app back to desktop

Now click EZPCfix on the desktop

    Click load hives

    Double click
    Delete Temp files
Select all but _Restore…… DO NOT SELECT THIS!
    Then click delete
    Then close
    Then Unload Hives
    Then close
    Back to desktop

    Then

    Start-Shutdown Options- Reboot (Eject CDs)

    Pray…

    Thanks

Thank you very much, dear Mike.
I have tried ubcd4win. It was very good soft. I did all waht you advised. Unfortunately at first it gave me option to restore up to original instalation. I did it, then the logon succeded but all settings of my server went down. I was forced to re-restore.
So, I coped with the problem by another method. I used UBCD in a netwprk computer, wich allowed me to enter the registers of the server and to view the processes. From there I found out that there is a wrong value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu rrentVersion\Winlogon\userinit.exe . To say the truth there were no value. So, I set it to C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe. Then I remembered that I may have a virus named ctfmon.exe. The search in register confirmed my doubt. I have deleted it, then tried to logon.
    SUCCESS SUCCESS SUCCESS!!!

    I Solved the problem!
Thank you very much to you Dear Mike.
    You helped me a lot.

    Best Regards
    Shant
