    I'm having a problem where IE7 won't install.

When i run the installer (Either downloaded or through Microsoft Update) it gets to the part where it looks for required updates and then simply stops. The green bar moves but nothing else happens. My firewall shows no activity so it's obviously not downloading anything.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks,

    Alex

Just as i wrote this it jumped into life, but i do have a different problem now.

I keep getting the yellow box at the bottom of the screen telling me i need to dload updates.

I download it and install it and all seems fine, until two minutes later when it pops up again with the same message.
Its called "Security Update for Windows XP (KB923980). How do i install it so it wont keep popping up?

Note that the KB923980 is not IE 7. It is a security Hotfix.

This workaround will solve the issue, but it is slightly lengthy:
    http://www.updatexp.com/windows-update-keeps-prompting.html

    But, first check:
    • The install log. You might find an entry such as: ">Install finished (Error 0x80070643: Fatal error during >installation.)
    • The Windows/Microsoft Update site and examine your History to see if the installation was successful.

If both log and History are clean, use the fix linked first in this post.
