    Hi.

    this computer is driving me crazy. From the very beginning it kept crashing. It is used for gaming, mainly Settlers 3 and 2 (next generation). Unfortunately, the PC is 3 years old and there is no warranty on it anymore.

    This is my hardware:

    * Mainboard: ASRock K7VT2
    * CPU: AMD Athlon XP2600+
    * 512 MB RAM (DDR, PC333)
    * Pixelview nVidia GeForce Ti4200-8x

    It was bought in 2003 and never really worked. The shop, where this PC was bought already changed the CPU, the CPU fan, and the mainboard. Windows XP has been reinstalled a couple of times.

    I tested the RAM with Memtest86+ and it looked fine to me.

    I ran out of ideas, what could make this computer crash.

    If you know, what could case the constant crashes of this computer, please let me know. Is there anything else I can test to find out, what is wrong with this PC?

    Thankyou very much in advance,
    Gwen

    VAL - MCi_STATUS register is valid
            Indicates that the information contained within the IA32_MCi_STATUS
            register is valid. When this flag is set, the processor follows the
            rules given for the OVER flag in the IA32_MCi_STATUS register when
            overwriting previously valid entries. The processor sets the VAL
            flag and software is responsible for clearing it.

    OVER  - Error Overflow
            Indicates that a machine check error occurred while the results of a
            previous error were still in the error-reporting register bank (that
            is, the VAL bit was already set in the IA32_MCi_STATUS register).
            the processor sets the OVER flag and software is responsible for
            clearing it. Enabled errors are written over disabled errors, and
            uncorrected errors are written over corrected errors. Uncorrected
            errors are not written over previous valid uncorrected errors.

    ADDRV - IA32_MCi_ADDR register valid
            Indicates that the IA32_MCi_ADDR register contains the address where
            the error occurred.

    MEMHIRERR - Memory Hierarchy Error {TT}CACHE{LL}_{RRRR}_ERR

    If it is always the same error, MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION (9c), and a class MCE error, you have a failing processor.

    Thankyou very much for your answer. Yes, it is always the same error, but the CPU has already been changed. How can that be?

    Gwen

    2 weeks.

    I have Motherboard Monitor installed:

    Actually I don't know, what a healthy temperature for this CPU is, but here are some screenshots, taken a couple of seconds before the system crashed:

    degrees in °Celsius
    degrees in °Fahrenheit

    cu,
    Gwen

    Safe (with diode) would be up to 65 C, which you are below from your screenshots.

    What will happen if there is an issue with your CPU is that you will throw the 9c error with increasing frequency as the CPU fails.

    Thankyou very much for your help. I found an old spare CPU (AMD Athlon 1800+) and the Computer ran the whole night doing the toture test (Prime95) with no crashes. :)

    cu,
    Gwen :D
