Windows Live Messenger login problem solver

I don't know how many are having this problem, but after the last round of Windows updates, Live Messenger would not login - the green and blue guys kept spinning, but no action was taking place, and no error messages were popping up either.

It seems to be a problem that is specific to WinXP (at least in my case, because the MSN Messenger on the laptop is fine (Win2000) with no problems logging in. Just the LM on the XP desktop.

Went to the Microsoft Communities for help and found the answer. Jonathan Kay has provided a fix: http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/remove_msgrsettings.reg

Settings will have to be redone, but at least signin happens again.
