Here is a message I sent to support@belarc.com

Do other people here get the same "Reinstall!" alert next to the KB902400 entry in Belarc Advisor's "Installed Microsoft Hotfixes" section?

I will post the contents of any email response I may get from Belarc.

Here is the quick, helpful reponse I got from Gary Newman at Belarc.

I already have qfecheck.exe in my C:\WINDOWS\system32\ folder. I ran qfecheck from Start > Run as follows:

qfecheck.exe /l:C:\ /v

This popped up a DOS window, showed me the progress, automatically closed the DOS window on completion, and created a <computer name>.log file in my C:\ directory.

This is the result I got regarding KB902400:

Here are the file properties for my MIGREGDB.EXE:

• Size: 7.50 KB (7,680 bytes)
• Size on disk: 7.50 KB (7,680 bytes)
• Created: Wednesday, August 04, 2004, 3:56:51 AM
• Modified: Wednesday, August 04, 2004, 3:56:51 AM
Now I'll just have to figure out how to reinstall the hotfix. (I've never had to do that before.) Then I'll try to figure out how the file got replaced. :)

I copied the migregdb.exe from my dllcache to a temp folder so I could compare after reinstalling KB902400.

Here is the uninstall/install procedure I followed (in case anyone else may need to use it).

• I uninstalled KB902400 via Add or Remove Programs and I got a pop-up warning about several applications, hotfixes, etc. that may not work properly. I proceeded anyway.
• Then I rebooted.
• Then I ran Windows Update and was blessed with two (2) "High-priority" updates that needed to be installed (KB913580 and KB902400). :) Therefore, I am guessing that those two hotfixes are interdependent.
• I proceeded with the installation and rebooted.
• Then I ran qfecheck and all "Identified Hotfixes" are "Current on system" (including KB902400 and KB913580). Belarc Advisor also gives my system a clean bill of health. :)
Here are the stats on the new migregdb.exe file:

• Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\migregdb.exe
• Size: 7.50 KB (7,680 bytes)
• Size on Disk: 7.50 KB (7,680 bytes)
• Created: Wednesday, August 04, 2004, 3:56:51 AM
• Modified: Monday, July 25, 2005, 7:46:57 PM

Hash Values:

Old migregdb.exe MD5 hash: 5417E3435139EB7686605BB1038BF24E
New migregdb.exe MD5 hash: 22B18EFB98F658FCF34698BAA7DDFA4F

Now all that's left to do is to see if I can figure out how the new file was improperly replaced with the old one. :) If I turn up anything, I'll post the info here.

I wonder how widespread this problem is - my desktop checks out the same as yours ref. KB902400. Sorted.

Thanks for posting that info - my guess a slightly botched hotfix installer?
