I'm having a couple issues with Windows XP Workgroup sharing.

    First :

I have a Windows XP SP2 desktop machine. It can see everyone and access everyone's files across my Workgroup. No one can access the files it has shared. It used to work, but now it just... doesn't. If I go to Map Network Drive, I can SEE the computer (Mainserver), but if I click the "+" it shows nothing where it should show shared folders. If I manually type it into Run, it says "Access is Denied ". I've tried every tutorial, every FAQ, nothing. The computers trying to gain access are on SP2. There are no passwords set on the workgroup.

    ________________________________________________________________

    Second :

On a totally different workgroup and LAN, all the computers can see each other and access each other's files. They're happy. BUT...

When these computers travel to do their job (Event Photography), and they are on a different LAN (same workgroup as before), different router, one of the computers randomly decides to not allow itself to be seen by any of the other computers. Again, all machines running XP SP2. No Workgroup passwords. The only solution I can find that is temporary is to restart the machine that can't be seen. This works for an hour or two then it decides to **** out again. I'm assuming this has to be a router problem.

    Any help appreciated.

First: Is the computer running a firewall? If so, check to make sure it's configured to allow file sharing.

Second: Is the router configured for the correct number of connections?

None of the computers are running a firewall. I'm not sure what you mean by correct # of connections... I've set it to allow over 60+ DHCP leases to hosts.

I've tried both your suggestions on that page and neither of them work. I get the same error that guy had, and I'll post what it looks like below.

Neither of those tutorials helped me. I still get the same error message. I've gone to the shared drive on "Mainserver1" and set full control to "Everyone "... and done everything else as well. No luck.

Here is what I have done and still doesn't work:

    - Run the home or office network setup wizard
    - Enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP on all computers
    - Disabled all firewalls
    - Used the Command Shell from Windows Resource Kit to enable guest authentication (thread below, posted by Q somebody...)
    - Went to gpedit.msc, and disabled "Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only ".
    - Restarting the computer(s) after trying these changes
    - Tried unsharing and resharing the folder(s).

Didn’t see if you had home or pro version of XP.
If home version is the guest account turned on?
Sounds weird but apparently that’s microsoft.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281248/en-us

Also might want to wander thru MS’s knowledge base.
    http://support.microsoft.com/search...etworking+access+denied&adv=&mode=r&cat=False
(change search parameters to see what else pops up)

As another thought on computer that works for a bit n then have to restart it.
Have you gone to CMD prompt and typed: IPCONFIG/ALL?
    DHCP enabled, Autoconfig enabled?
Check the lease obtained/expires time of local ethernet adapter.
That's a long shot but worth a check.
