When I run SFC /scannow, it asks for me to insert the Windows XP disk and then tells me I have the wrong disk. I've tried it in all my CD drives and even tried a copy. Both CD's have previously worked for SFC. The drives are working fine for CDs and DVDs.

Does anyone know what's happening or where I'd look in the registry to find what SFC is looking for?

Thanks for anything you can tell me.

Check the values of ServicePackSourcePath and SourcePath in:

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Setup\

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\

Tweak XP may also have that option.

Thank you for the registry settings, but it didn't help. They are correct and match the settings in my other computer.

    Here's the exact error:

The CD you provided is the wrong CD.
Please insert the Windows XP Professional CD-ROM into you CD-ROM drive.

I only have one CD and it is the original installation CD.

Change those registry entries to point to the I386 folder on your hard drive....

I'm thinking you have a "restore" CD from an OEM? (Like Dell, Compaq etc.)

    Mr

Thanks again, but no dice. I tried with the I386 directory and without. It's not an OEM version. It's XP 2600 Corporate and the SFC was working fine. The Volume Name is: WXPVOL_EN.

I tried safe mode, but you can't start the RPC server in safe mode. As a last effort (for now), I'm shutting down everything I can and trying again.

Again, thanks for all the help. I'll let you know if I solve this.
