I use 98se cuz i cant afford another copy of XP, but I just got through integrating my XPsp2 with my original XP pro. I was wondering if I can do the same with my old Win 98 and SE. Would save me time when I have to reinstall it on my other system(web surfing an the like is its primary function).

    Thanks for any info.

I have to sort of guess here and think that you are wanting to upgrade 98 with 98SE so my answer is YES.

BUT !! DO NOT BOOT from the hard drive to do it. Boot from a power off state directly to the a Floppy and then run setup from the Win98 Folder on the CD. Just need to be sure the the install does go into the existing Windows folder

I myself copied the setup files to a folder on my D: drive. Booted to the floppy and ran setup from the files on the D: Drive.

Depends on the CD. If it's an UPGRADE disk, one must run it in windows.

You could very well be right about that.

It has been so long since I did it that my memory may be incorrect.

    Thank you
    Win98 full
Win98se not sure.... I know it's not upgrade tho cuz I used to install it the same as win98.

In the past b4 XP I copied the win98 folders to my harddisk, booted to C:\ and installed from there( was faster since it wasn't having to read the data from cd.

Not sure if you understood...I was hoping to intgrate win98se with Win98 like we can do with Xpsp2 with our original disk, then create a new Xp install disk w/ SP2 already integrated so that when it is installed on the system there isnt so many updates to d/l.

I know all about going from win98 an updating it to SE, I was just hoping I could win98 the same as adding SP2 to my original XP disk.

    Clear as Mud?

I don't believe there is a way to slipstream a 98SE upgrade CD with the 98 CD. It has been awhle, but can't you just do a fresh install of the 98SE upgrade and insert the 98 CD when it asks for a qualifying disk?

Only have one win98 upgrade disk and it won't boot. Insists on running in win98. Don't know if others do. Just try it and you'll find out.

Your disk (not an update) will boot if BIOS is set correctly.

Slipstreaming is only supported since Windows 2000 (Win2K + WinXP).
