System Restore cannot roll back

    When I try to use System Restore it goes through the process but then says that the system couldn't be restored. I tried multiple dates and none of them would restore back to the date. SR creates system checkpoints but will not restoe back to them. I've cleaned my Temp file, deleted cookies, scanned the system with Norton AV 2006 which found nothing, defragged my system. Does anyone have some suggestions too fix this ?

    Boot to Safe Mode, choose your restore point, and try to restore while in Safe Mode. Toshiba tech support gave me that suggestion when I couldn't restore my wife's laptop. It worked for me; hopefully it will work for you, too.

    Hello cwknute,

    If the above suggestions have not solved the problem:

    System Restore doesn't work.

    One reason - the space allocated to System Volume Information is filled to the maximum which is 12% of Drive space. Sometimes neither XP or WinME handle this situation well.

    To make room: right click on My Computer > Properties > System Restore tab and for the Monitored drive > settings. Move the slider left to 6% and reboot. This will make room for the Restore Operation. Afterwards, reset the slider back to 12%.
