I would like to know if there is a way to write a script that will take whatever tape is in the tape drive, deallocate that tape, then mark it as Free so that the MSbackup utility can use it. I would like to automate this so noone has to be at the machine when this occurs.
This is for Windows Server 2003, using MSBackup, mainly DDS4 tape drive and tapes.

    Thanks

I would and have stongly recommend using BackupAssist with MS backup. It really does take all the headaches out of using MS backup on a server.

When using BackupAssist, MS backup uses the tape in the drive. You don't have to manually free media.
