IRQ conflict?

This is a bit complicated (for me at least) so I´ll try to make it as simple as possible.
I have two computers and three graphics cards.
My most recent system has a Radeon 9800XT by Asus that went for repair at the Asus factory in the Netherlands (second time in the last six months). Apparently Asus does not replace faulty hardware even when it still has a valid warranty! They try to "fix" it...
Because I didn´t want to be without a system for "at least" two months (that´s how long the repair takes!) I installed an old card (an Geforce4 MX440). Removed all the ATI software and installed Nvidia drivers and everything worked fine.
Games looked terrible with this card so I decided to replace it with the one I have on my other system (a Geforce4 TI4600). Since I use this system mostly for word processing and for watching TV (it has a TV card) I thought the MX440 would do just fine here and I could use the TI4600 for games.
The TI4600 improved the way games look a bit but I couldn´t get the MX440 working on the other system because of an "IRQ conflict" that prevents me from even installing different drivers. Everytime I start my computer it says "new hardware detected" and asks me if I want to install software for it. When I point the installer to the folder where I have the Nvidia drivers it starts installing but in the end says "It´s not possible to install this hardware. An error has occurred. Incorrect parameter ".
I decided it was better to switch cards again but the problem is that even with the TI4600 there (where it has been for the last three years) I get the same error.
It is working as "VgaSave" now and doesn´t let me change drivers. When I click (under VgaSave properties) "resources" it shows "devices in conflict" with three lines all with the same device: "Intel(R) 82845 Processor to AGP controller ". Since the motherboard only has one AGP slot how can I solve this problem? I tried removing and inserting the card again but to no avail... Is there a way to sort this kind of conflicts? This conflict was probably caused by the MX440 but why does it keep doing it with the TI4600?
    Any ideas?
    Sorry for the long post...
    Thank you in advance.

    Hugo

Btw I´m using Windows XP Pro SP1 on both systems.

Try looking for updated or reinstall the origional AGP mobo drivers. Also look at the mobo's maker's site and see if there is a registry patch for running ATI cards. My Asus board has such a patch on it's install cd.

I managed to find the motherboard manual and CD but since this is a somewhat old motherboard (NB72-SC by DFI) all the software on the CD is for Windows 98/2000/ME only... :(
I browsed the DFI site and found some drivers and BIOS I could download for this particular motherboard but I don´t know exactly what to look for.
Is it the Windows INF drivers?
I could use some more help.
    Thank you.

I would download any and all drivers and bios updates available with the most recent date that apply to your OS.

On driver updates you will most likely just have to run an install file. On a bios update you will need to make a boot floppy to do the bios update. Be REAL sure that if you 'flash' the bios that you follow instructions exactly!!!! If you don't feel comfortable with the bios update try any and all driver updates. If that solves the problem leave well enough alone.

It sounds to me like a clash of new and old drivers.

Boot into Safe Mode, go to Add/Remove programs and remove anything related to graphics. Go to Device Manager and remove/uninstall any listings for Graphics Adapter.
Shutdown and put the card in that you want to run.
When you restart, install the drivers from the CD. If the drivers need to be "executed" as a program, Cancel out of thedriver install and run the drivers program when you get into Windows.

Update the drivers later from nVidia if you like. Check that they are the correct ones for your model.

I doubt you will need to flash the BIOS. Read the BIOS revision information for if there is something related to your situation.

Thank you all for the help.
I did as Mark suggested but it didn´t work...
After I installed the drivers it asked me to reboot which I did. When Windows started it no longer says "New Hardware Detected" but the Nvidia Drivers are not working because when I check the graphics card properties it still says "VGASave ".
Take a look a the screenshot I took. I know it´s in Portuguese but maybe you can see what I mean...
    What next?
    Thank you again.

I can only say what I would do at this point if I was sitting in front of the system...

I would uninstall the VGA listing in device manager and make sure that there are no video card related listings in add/remove software, then re-boot.

If the hardware wizzard comes up use specify a location and direct it to the drivers on the video install cd.

On the above I am assumeing that if the video card cd has an install program you have already tried running it.

If the wizzard comes up with more than one possible driver select the one that relates to your card.

Thank you all for your valuable help.
I finally got the problem solved. The answer was in the original "Creative 3D Blaster4 Titanium" instalation CD...
I feel such a noob... Well I am a noob!
Apparently I was having problems because I was trying to install some Nvidia drivers I had downloaded from Nvidia.com.
Like it was suggested I used the original CD that came with the card, pointed the installer to the right folder on the CD and voilá... problem solved! :)
    Thank you once again.

    Best

Anyone that has never been a noob please post now and state your case! :D

Thanks for letting us know how you solved it. The unsolved ones can leave someone in your same situation wondering how they will ever get their machine working again. It also lets us know if we might be giving SOME SORT of the right advice :D
