    Hi
I listen to the radio at night with windows media player, this morning when I closed it the player closed but the music (Radio Station) keep on playing.
I checked task manager and it did not have windows media player as running.
There was nothing in my tool bar showing the player.

Can anyone give me a clue on why it would do that?

I will check again tomorrow morning and see if it happens again.

Mine does that every once in a while too but to tell you the truth, I've never tried to run down the problem. I think mine started doing it when I installed SP2 but I could be wrong. My guess is it's a bug of some type.

Are you sure it doesn't show up in Task Manager? Mine's always there and I just use it to kill it when this happens. It'll be on the processes tab and the name is wmplayer.exe. That's about all I can tell you about it right now. I'll check around and see if I can find anything else about it. No promises though. :) I probably should have tried to run it down a long time ago but it happens so infrequently it never made it to the top of my "to do" list. Maybe somebody else knows something about it. If it happens to you and to me, more than likely there's more that have this problem.

    Hi Zander
Yeah I looked in task manager and it wasn't there, I was going to end program there, but it didn't show.
It did not happen this morning. Must be some kind of fluke thing.

    Thanks Geri

When you looked in Task Manager did you click on the processes tab and look for it there instead of on the applications tab?

    Hi Zander
No, I didn't, I just check the applications.
I thought that it would be listed there because it was running?

Well, the next time it happens, check the processes tab for wmplayer.exe. I'm pretty sure you'll find it there. The player doesn't appear on the applications tab because you've closed the window. The process itself continues to run however.

Yesterday I'd used Media Player early in the day and closed it. It closed fine but your post made me take a look in Task Manager (processes tab) and I was surprised to see that wmplayer.exe was still running. When I closed the program it closed as it should but apparently the process doesn't always shut down properly. After killing the process I started Media Player, looked in Task Manager and wmplayer.exe was running again (which is normal). I closed Media Player and the wmplayer.exe process shut down as it should. Apparently under certain circumstances it has problems closing. Only problem is, I don't know what those circumstances are. :)

I have noticed one thing about it though. With mine this happens with video files. Don't know if the radio does it or not because I rarely use it but my guess is that it would if I used it enough. With video files if I close MP while the video is still playing, MP closes but the sound continues on until I kill wmplayer.exe in Task Manager. But, if I stop the video before I close MP, the sound never continues, obviously, because I stopped it in MP. I never have really watched Task Manager though to see if wmplayer.exe shuts down each time I do this or not. I'll have to keep an eye on it to see.

For now, I guess the only thing I can tell you is to stop the radio before closing MP. If you forget and it happens to continue playing, you'll have to kill wmplayer.exe in Task Manager.

Does anybody else reading this have this happen? I'm using Media Player 9.

I have and still have not figured it all out.

I just ran it to play a .mid file and then closed WMP. Checked taskmanager ant it still showed in the applications tab. I did an End Task on it. Then I restarted WMP ( from a shortcut ) and got the error message that it was not shut down properly

I THINK that it may require us to stop the Audio or Video player before shutting WMP Down.

In fact a while back I had a problem after running WMP. I restarted Windows XP and it ( WMP ) STILL SHOWED UP in Taskmanager. Now figure that one out.

I have also had problems when just double ckicking on a .mid file.

That was what I was thinking too but I'm not sure. This morning before I posted my last post to this thread, I tried playing a couple video files and closed MP while they were still playing. I did this several times and each time the wmplayer.exe process shut down as soon as I closed MP. So, I'm not sure what to think. It seems to do it sometimes and not others. My guess is that closing it without stopping whatever's playing has something to do with it but it would seem there's something else in the mix if it doesn't do it everytime. But, then again...... :)

    Hi
    Just another "Microbug" I guess.
