I have rolled my computer back to the factory install and I have sp1 now and I do not want to install sp2 this time but how can I keep the windows update from bugging me to install sp2?

I got that stupid windows thing in my task bar and it says "updates are ready for your computer, click here to install" and when I click on it, it is that darn sp2 service pack.

    Instead of disabling autoupdates altogether...

I believe you can go to the windows update site manually, and once it scans, you can select "hide this update" and it will stop finding it.

Let us know how it goes.

    Hi Shortgal,

Right click My Computer > properties > Automatic Updates tab and pick one of options.

    Regards - Charles

    Hello Mron,

I think the "hide" this update option comes with the v5 version of AU http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx?ln=en-us

This came with SP2, but if shortgal goes to the update site manually, MS might offer the v5 update, just not sure, can't check that.

    Regards - Charles

    Thanks Charles.

I wasn't sure about the 'hide' feature in SP1, or if the AU update is available for XP SP1.

So many changes to keep abreast of....and don't want to go back to SP1 to find out.

the only way I could get it to stop was to check turn of automatic updates.

so, I just said "what the heck and installed the sp2, it went smooth as silk, no problems, like the first time I installed sp2, I had to reinstall windows.
