    need more help

    Ramona,

I copied the files you listed above in the firefox plugin directory but I am still having problems. I think the problem is Java but I'm not sure. I am trying to get the sound working and am not able to get it to work although it works fine on IE. do you have any ideas? Thanks

I don't know if Java is at fault, although it is so new that some websites do not support it. As for the listed website, I gave up. It is too much work, but Java was doing ok, but no way I was going back. In my book, anything which works with IE is most likely based on Active X, and none of the gecko products support Active X ( an exception is the npmozax.dll file which allows access to EWindows Media Player).
I just went through an experience with Housecall, the free inline AntiVirus scan. It does not like the newest Java, but, it works with it, nevertheless, using the UK/Ireland version which just needs Java. The US/Canada version grooved on Active X, beside needing Java. I doubt that Java is related to sound.

    rss,

I went to the site and tried one of the single player games. There was definitely sound, so could it be that you have no application for embedded audio ? I couldn't tell from the page source what type of audio file was used, i.e., mid, mp3, wav, etc. If you have no program for embedded files, then you will want to install one.

Quicktime - will play all three of the above embedded file types
Crescendo - will play embedded midi files

IrfanView, with Plugins has the IVPlayer which plays both mid and wav embedded files. It will also stream WMV, MP3, etc. files.

You can also download most of these from the PluginDoc page here:

    rss,

When you visited the RunEscape site, did you start having any PC problems? Suddenly, when I was typing a reply in a thread, I could no longer type a word without the cursor jumping back instead of forward. I closed down, ran AdAware and SpyBot, and found 12 bugs, most of which were Alexa, with one DSO Exploit!

I certainly don't recommend anyone going to the site, or trying to play the games.

Thanks Ramona for trying something which looked suspicious. As if we need more spyware!
