    All the exe files remain senseless and nothing happen. All the exe files are also not showing any associate icon. Similary if I want to run msword.exe it do not start. However, if i want to open any .doc extension file than reltaed doc opens with msword. Application are not working. However, it associate file are working with "open with ". There is no error or any message has been popped up.

    Download this batch file to a floppy and run it on the ailing machine while booted into Windows:

    EXE associate fix

    Or if you are able to access the Internet on the ailing box, just run the batch file from that link.

    Or if you can open a command prompt window, just type assoc.exe=exefile (enter) and it may get you back in shape.

    It should make a momentary flash (command window) when you double click it. That's all it is supposed to do. If it does that and you still have the problem running .exe files, your system has some problem other than the .exe file association.

    Other things to try would be, running System Restore and choosing a date prior to this problem. Or else, running sfc /scannow to see if it can fix any missing or corrupt files.

    Be sure your system is virus free by running a full scan with the latest sigs.

    Not a single exe is still running. Therefore it is impossible to run "sfc /scannow" or any other scan software. When I double click on exe.bat file no flashing or not any thing other happenend.

    try Start->Run -> command.com

    That should open a dos prompt so you can run that batch file.

    What Anti virus program are yu running? Is it up to date?

    I remember a virus my cousin got on his unprotected computer about 3 years ago that did exactly the same as you. No .exe's able to run. I think I went to the Symantec site and downloaded a fix. I don't remember the name of the nasty but a search at symantec might turn up the right one.

    Try opening a command window by going to Start > All Programs > Command Prompt.

    If not, try copy/paste the following into the Run Window:

    %SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe

    If you are able to get the command window to open by either of those methods or any other method, type assoc.exe=exefile and press enter.

    If instead you get an error message asking you to direct the process to select a program to execute the command with, select the "select a program from a list" option and then choose the "Windows Command Processor. "

    Another method to try, download this EXE Fix Reg File. and import it onto the ailing machine via floppy or whatever. Then double click it to run it. When asked to ok the merge, answer yes.

    Good progress. Now you can move forward easier.

    Now this:

    http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/xp_fileassoc.zip

    Download that and unzip it. Run the batch file it contains. Alternately, if you so desire, you can open it and run it right from the download link. This is a batch file created by Doug Knox for the purpose of restoring the XP default associations for the common files. It will not work on certain files that have been changed by some controlling program. Still good for your purpose however.

    From a command prompt window run:

    assoc.Lnk=Lnkfile

    The batch file should have already done that so there may be another problem. :confused:

    If the above didn't help, download and unzip this Lnk Association Reg File. and unzip it. Copy the reg file it produces to the ailing box and double click it. Allow the merge.
