Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entries. Close ALL other windows and click fix.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Windows Update] wupdate.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Update] sysdat.exe

Right click My Computer and choose properties. On system restore tab, check the box to turn off. OK out.

Go to start>run and type msconfig, hit enter. On the boot.ini tab, check the box next to /safeboot and OK. Yes to restart. This will restart your computer in safe mode. Logon to your user account.

Now in safe mode, you will need to show hidden files and folders, as well as system files and extensions for known file types.

Search the drive for the following files and delete all instances.
    wupdate.exe
    sysdat.exe
    wonkk.exe
    EGDACCESS_1057.dll
    EGDACCESS_1057.inf

Open C:\Temp if present, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete.
Open C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\temp, select all and delete. Do this for all usernames.
Open the control panel, then internet options and delete the temporary internet files, checking the box for offline content. Click the 'Publishers' button on the 'Content' tab. Remove any entries in the 'Trusted Publishers' list. Then, still in the control panel, open the Java Plug-in, click the cache tab and then clear. This will only apply if you have installed Sun Java.
Open My Computer, right click Local disk C: and choose properties, then disk cleanup. Check all boxes except compress old files and OK.
Uncheck the /safeboot box in msconfig and ok to reboot.

Scan your PC with RAV. If any files are infected, click the report button then copy and paste it here.

Run another HijackThis scan and post the log.

    Fishman's Pop ups problem

    Hi Dave

Thank you! Things are much better. I followed your instructions to the letter. I did however, still get a single pop up just as I allowed the popup blocker to to download the application required for RAV.

I did things in the following sequence:

    1. I executed all your instructions in standalone mode i.e. not connected to my network.
    2. I then connected to my network and the Internet. Proceded to download RAV and got one popup. Then I ran RAV and HJT again.

Fix these entries with HJT, with ALL other windows closed.

O2 - BHO: PCTools Site Guard - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - C:\PROGRA~1\SPYWAR~1\tools\iesdsg.dll (file missing)....you will probably need to reinstall PCTools Site Guard
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dxpkailsgn] c:\windows\system32\dxpkailsgn.exe

    Reboot to safe mode.

Delete the following files from the C:\Windows\System32 folder.
    dxpkailsgn.exe
    bling.exe
    TFTP2204
    TFTP2280
    TFTP2588
    TFTP2712
    TFTP2744
    TFTP2760
    TFTP3028
    TFTP3172
    TFTP340
    TFTP3416
    TFTP3600
    TFTP3616
    TFTP612

Open C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5, select all and delete.
Open C:\WINDOWS\TEMP, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete.
Empty the recycle bin and reboot back into Windows.

Run another RAV scan and post a new HJT log.

**For just in case you have problems locating or deleting any of the files, download the Killbox and follow it's instructions for use below.

Download The Killbox from here: http://tools.zerosrealm.com/killbox.zip

Unzip the files to a folder, then open and double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dxpkailsgn.exe

Don't click any of the buttons though, instead please click on the Action menu and choose "Delete on Reboot ". On the next screen, click on the File menu and choose "Add File ". The filename and path should show up in the window. If that's successful, choose the Action menu and select "Process and Reboot ". DO NOT allow reboot when prompted. Instead, repeat the above steps for the following and reboot when done.

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\bling.exe

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\TFTP2204

    etc, etc

Reboot to safe mode, Admin account, and fix this with the Killbox. Do not allow reboot.

    C:\windows\system32\dxpkailsgn.exe

Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all from edit on the toolbar and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete.
    Empty the recycle bin.
Reboot and post a new HJT log.

    Dave

I followed your instructions, but did not find dxpkailsgn.exe. (Did not use Killbox, but normal search with hidden enabled and looked in Windows\system32). Then rebooted to normal and ran HJT. Noticed a line with dxpkailsgn.exe. Fixed it, went back into Safe mode and searched again. Did not find. (not using Killbox) Rebooted normal again and ran HJT. Looks clean now:

Log looks good except for one running process that keeps re-appearing, but with a different executable. In the latest log it is the following.

    C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\PW2E17.EXE

Download and install Move-on-Boot. Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all from edit on the toolbar then right click any file and select Delete file(s) on the next boot. Close, reboot and run another scan, then post the log.

Should be safe to re-enable system restore and create a manual restore point.

Do you have Spybot Version 1.3? If not, download it from my signature and install. Allow it to load SD Helper. Open it up and click mode on the toolbar, then advanced mode. Click immunize in the left pane, then immunize again, this time from above with the green + beside it. Click the link below that for SpywareBlaster, download, install, enable all protection and update. Check for updates regularly. Then, still in Spybot, click tools button, then IE tweaks and at least lock the HOSTS file.
    Then download and install IESpyad.

That will give you some added layers of protection against unwanted parasites.

Run another HJT scan and save the log. Immediately check the running temp file with this online malware scanner and post the results.

    Hi Dave

There is a different one in Temp after every reboot. I scanned 3 different ones with the online scanner which reported no problems and advised that the files exist in the database.

    try this:
go to www3.ca.com/security advisor, do free online pest scan.
when scan is finished, click the + at each pest listed in the box, ca will tell you where it is in your computer.
click the pest name and ca will open a page with info on how to do a manual removal, file names the pest uses, hiding locations, etc.
Also, get regseeker, and use the search registry feature to find the pests. Use the results from ca scan as a guide to help you find pests and delete.

Well, it's unusual to see an executable running from the temp folder, and I'm still a bit suspicious of it. If you are as curious as I, lets see if we can determine what's creating it. If not, and you aren't experiencing any problems, that's fine too. If you're game, lets start with a startup list. Open HJT to the misc tools section, check the boxes for minor and empty sections and click generate startup list. Copy and post it here.

I don't see anything unusual in that log. Would you zip up a copy of the current running executable and attach to an email to me here please, subject: Temp File? We already know the file runs under a different name after each boot. Are the old one's still present? If so, zip and send them too.
