Recently experiencing "black screen w/ white text" appearing on Start-up for 2 to 3 sec., then continues starting-up normally to the desk top. It appears that it wants to start in Safe Mode. Any suggestions/assistance is appreciated. Rudy

    Hello rudmar,

It appears that it wants to start in Safe Mode.

Is it Safe Mode that it's showing? Another possibility is the command box. There are apps that will do that - SpyBot is one installing an update. Start > Run > type cmd > ok. Does it look like that?

Safe Mode is full screen - the command box is not.

    Regards - Charles

Hi....Charles: Screen appears full as Safe Mode.....but only for 3 secs. then

I'm not real clear on exactly what you are seeing or at which point you are seeing it.

'wants to start in safe mode' - what are you seeing to suggest that?

And at exactly what point in the boot sequence is the black/white screen showing up? After the black screen with the colored XP logo or ???

Can you hit the pause/break key at the problem point and have it hold there long enough to copy down exactly what is showing on the screen and post that?

Black Screen w/ White Text on Start up??

Gentlemen.....I believe I've solved the problem. In looking at another thread
w/ a similar situation, I tried the suggestion set forth. Namely, ....
Rt. Click on "My Computer ", then click on Advanced Tab, go to "Startup and Recovery section ", click Settings in "System Startup "; Uncheck Box for "Time to Display List of Operating Systems "; [when chk'd you can reactivate & set the display time length].
As I recall, I ran into this problem when I was using Win98se OS & directed to resolve this in the same matter.
Thanxxxxx.... for your time & input. You may want to file this away for future reference. Ciao............Rudy :)

    Hi Rudy,

I'm dual booting and I thought that was the count down interval in the boot loader all this time. That count down is in msconfig boot.ini tab as well.

That time for me is 30 seconds and I don't get what you get.

    Hi Rudy,

I think what you may be seeing is a dual boot menu with a very quick timeout. Either that or the Recovery Console if you installed it.

Go back into that setting, recheck it and expand the time so that you can look at it for longer than a few seconds.

If you go into msconfig > boot.ini tab, what does it look like? You'll also see the same timeout interval there on the right.

    Regards - Charles
