    arkie,

No internal spellchecker, as there is no Mail component, and no Composer.

Try SpellBound, which I bet you like as well, if not better than the other program. ;)

They are not misplelled, just over-enthusiastic!
I, personally, do not like any of these spellcheckers.

    arkie,

Good to hear! I have SpellBound installed on all Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox browsers and never experienced any problems with the application...

SpellBound installs OK but, when I install the Windows library file, I get a couple of error messages the next time I open Firefox. After clearing them FF opens normally, but SpellBound doesn't work.

I can find nothing in the help files on the author's site but, just in case someone here has some thoughts (Ramona?), the error messages are attached.

Jim, are you saying that you installed a Windows' library file separately from the SpellBound, and if so could you elaborate.

I just uninstalled and reinstalled the extension, and don't get any error. The install includes 3 components:
    The 0.7.2 update
    Windows Components
    English (US) Dictionary

There is no need for anything else to be installed for the extension to work.

    Hi Ramona,

The SpellBound website says that a library file must be installed (see here ... select "Install SpellBound for Firefox "). That's what I did, with the aforementioned results.

    Edit:

Hmmm, perhaps I read too much into what I saw on the website, and that it wasn't necessary to install an English library. I'll try it again, without the library file, and let you know what happens.

    Jim,

I have never installed the Library file, and have never had even a glitch with SpellBound, even in older versions. I'm sure you uninstalled before trying to install again.

You might try this, from the SpellBound Bug Reports

I'll check it tomorrow, Ramona. Right now, I'm off to bed (you're younger than I am, plus an hour earlier :D).

You might be interested to know that it took 2:40 for notification of your post to get to me (assuming that your 22:26 post time is my time and not yours).

    Jim,

Your time would be 22:26, and why it took over two hours to receive the Reply Notification, remains a mystery? You might mention it to Arie, as that is out of my realm of editing...

    Hi Ramona,

I didn't mean to imply that the BBS was responsible for the time delay between your post and my receiving email notification it, as it wasn't ... both your post and the email were date/timed at 22:26, but I didn't receive the email until 00:26 (1:40 later, not 2:40, as I first stated).

Apparently, my email server got bogged down yesterday ... someone sent me an email yesterday morning at 10:25, but I didn't receive it until 18:10 last evening.

I've just had an exchange of emails with Robert Strong, author of SpellBound. The answer to my inability to use the program lies in the fact that I'm using FF 1.0+ (12-15-04) and, at present, SpellBound doesn't support FF trunk builds.

According to him, the problem should be resolved within the next week or so.

    Hi Bill,

First, you have to realize that Firefox is not a finished product ... development is ongoing.

The difference between Trunk and Branch builds has been, probably, the single most most confusing aspect of Firefox during its evolution.

For some time, prior to the release of FF 1.0, there were two simultaneous lines of development, Branch and Trunk with, consequently, two versions of FF available on an almost daily basis. The Branch was considered to be the more stable of the two and, as I understand it, 1.0 was the final result of the Branch line.

After that, the Branch was discontinued, and all development has continued on the Trunk. Nightly builds are available.

If you're at all interested in following the progress of FF's development, see the Firefox Builds forum and The Burning Edge.
