Search using Agent Ransack for marlett.ttf brings two instances. One in C:\Windows\Fonts and one in C:\Windows\system32\dll cache\.

I go to the second one and it is there. I go to the first one C:\Windows\Fonts and it is not there.

I have folder options set for viewing everything.

    Just wondering.

That's just one of the wierd things about the Fonts folder. It's no normal folder and has special powers. Think of it as an Applet that tries to protect you from doing anything wrong as regards Fonts, but sometimes fails. Corruption in it can cause you much grief. Trying to change its ways can lead to an unbootable system that isn't easily repairable and generally requires a repair install at the least.

Windows has other Special" folder like that but they are less hazardous to mess with.

ps. If it'll make you feel any worse, I have the same two locations for it and can view both of them without a problem. Checking the properties reveals no hidden attribute on either one. Placing the hidden attribute to them makes no difference, still viewable.

Please don't try to fix that on your Fonts folder lest you risk what I mentioned earlier. If all is working, best leave it lie.

pps. The article from MS that Arie linked is for Win95 and may not be relevant to your situation.

ppps. TweakUi offers an option of "Repair The Fonts Folder." Use at your own peril. :) Probably safe enough though. It's under "Repair" and scroll the window for the listing.

    Thanks Arie and 'dude

    The tweakui did nothing.

I copied marlett from dll cache to fonts folder and did a search with agent ransack again. It showed three with the new one in the fonts folder as "marlett0.ttf ". I deleted that one and intend to forget about it.

The only reason I became interested was some one (Shadowhawk) said he had deleted it and had really scarewed his computer at one time.

Goes to show, I don't have nearly enough to do.....

:D I followed that same thread and immediately deleted my marlott.ttf from the Fonts folder for a test. It made no difference whatsoever to my system. Go figure, I don't have enough to do either. :D

Actually the WFP replaced the font in jig time so I lost interest in the endeavor and was left wondering how Shadowhawk managed to delete his accidentally. You'd have to go to extreme measures to bypass the system.

Go to a command prompt and type each line below (enter after each)

    cd\
    cd windows
    attrib -s fonts

Then go look in the Fonts folder and notice that several fonts are now visible that weren't before. (assuming your fonts folder was healthy and normally set)

then go back to the comand prompt:

    cd\
    cd windows
    attrib +s fonts

Now look what happened! You're back to normal and some of those fonts can no longer be seen, even though you know you have them. You don't really need to know why all that is as it is. Trust me, the Fonts folder is very strange. Do be careful when messing with it or you'll be posting with another problem. :D

I did the attrib thing and they appeared and then went back to normal. I'm satisfied and have officially lost interest again. :D
