How can I change the program load sequence?
When I log on, Messenger trys to load before my network is loaded and therefore always fails to get connected.

This may help. I haven't tried it but it's been recommended here. Read about it here.

What I would suggest is turn off the offending program in the startup list and start it manually later. msconfig at it's startup tab will work for this as well.

I have had the same problems with both Win98 and XP.

I have tried changeing the sequence with no success.

I finaly gave up and removed them from the SU list and connect when I was ready to.

A suggestion. ( or thought. Your choice )

When things like messenger are loaded at start up you may lose control of what comes and goes without you being aware of it.

I myself allow nothing to connect to the Internet at bootup. And I also allow nothing remain connected after use. I unwittingly left IE connected once and I was real sorry. I did not get an actual Virus but found stuff that I never asked for or downloaded.

    Hi HRH,

    Welcome to the BBS.

This is a simpler fix than that in the PC Mag article linked in Welshjim's post, but it might be worth a try.

I had a similar problem, a conflict caused by the order in which the programs loaded from my Startup folder. Not surprisingly, they appear to load in alphabetical order so I simply renamed the shortcut for the offending program so that it loaded last.
