    Hello to All,
I read up on the Java issues and decided to follow the directions to uninstall the microsoft java vm. everything indicates it is uninstalled and the install of the most recent Sun Java Vm went smooth. 2 things have come up though.

    1. I had to turn off the advanced function of ie6 for install on demand other or every java site i went on would prompt me to install the microsoft java vm even though i have the sun java installed.

    2. windows updates keeps asking me to install the critical update for microsoft java vm.

any comments if others have found these same problems?

what should i do? install the update?

    thanks to all replies.

    Hello jjeni,

"1. I had to turn off the advanced function of ie6 for install on demand other or every java site i went on would prompt me to install the microsoft java vm even though i have the sun java installed. "

If you're not going to use MS JVM, no point in updating, can always update in the future. You solved the nag problem.

"2. windows updates keeps asking me to install the critical update for microsoft java vm "

Turn off the nag in Services: Auto updates. That does not keep you from going into the site by yourself and and proceding normally.

Start > Control Panel > performance & Maintenance > Admin Tools > Services

    Regards - Charles

    jjenni,

I have not replaced MS Java on my m/c and can only suggest the following. No doubt wiser folks will come along with a view.

Re. point 2 - DO NOT install the update to MS java vm - you don't have it on your m/c!!! Update searches your m/c to determine which updates you need, but is apparently not clever enough to detect that MS java is not installed. Suggest you go to the Personalise button on the Update page and personalise your update regime. I am fairly sure that you can mark that update - and any others which you do not want, so that they are not searched for and shown in the main Update window.

You can turn off notification of categories of updates, for example, driver updates, not notifications of individual patches.
