I seem to be having additional update problems. I solved my errors with update manager but now they download but will not install. I have run all the suggested fix it software, Even when I try to install manually it will go though the motions of installing but then give me a fail error, or it will just hang in the install mode. Fixit and KB947821 have been run without success. I don't know what to do next.

Have you tried installing one at a time? Neil.

What is the error code you are receiving?

Hi joe645. First I would try Performing a clean boot in Windows and see if the updates install successfully.

Did Windows Updates install successfully previously or is this issue a recent occurrence?

As I said, these problems I am having started after I tried Windows 10 but opted out for my original OS Windows 7. I have had contact with the Microsoft Answer Team and they remotely have tried to correct the update issue unfortunately without success. They ran some troubleshooting fixes including SFC and DISM and got 4 of the 15 updates to load but then the others failed. I still can't download anything on the net in Firefox or Chrome only IE and there are those other couple of pesky problems with creating a temp file and not being able to boot my Repair Disk even though the Boot Menu allows me to. It just bypasses the CD and go directly to HDD.

You might try following my guide for repairing Windows 7 and see if you can successfully get those Windows Updates to install.

I have tried to run that before. It asks me if I want to install Hotfix and the Standalone software runs and runs and runs with no results. I have a new HDD that I am going to install with my present HDD and thereafter install Windows 8 or 10 on it. Then I will transfer my programs to it and do a clean reinstall of Windows 7 on the original HDD and copy the programs back. The I will install EasyBCD software to manage the Operating Systems.

That just sounds like you ran the System Update Readiness Tool. Did you go through and follow the rest of my instructions for running the Windows Repair All in One program?

I downloaded the suggested software from your direct source but got security warnings as well as "Access Denied" when trying to run. Downloaded from another source and got this message; "could not determine a temp directory name. Try running setup.exe /T:<Path>

Did you try using a different Internet browser or a different download link to download the program?

Once you get the program downloaded, you should be able to right click the program and select Run as administrator and then the program should just open.

Did you boot the computer into Safe Mode with Networking and try downloading the program in that mode?

I got the program downloaded and unzip. Tried to run Repair Windows.exe as administrator but nothing happens. Ran some check and it said it was incompatible. Tried to run in safe mode but same results.

Can you post the error message when you attempt to open the program? If you indeed can't even open the program, have you tried opening the program on another computer to verify that the program wasn't corrupted?

Finally got the All In One program downloaded and run (Safe Mode). It was quite extensive and I see that all my locks on the desktop are gone but find them still on other icons as well as a blue and yellow shield on many of them. I know that has something to do with parental controls but have been unable to remove them. I am still having problems though with Windows Update. Continues to download and go through installs but ends up saying Updates Failed. I have decided to go ahead with my plan to install 2 HDD and Windows 10, reinstall saved programs and files and then do a clean reinstall of the Windows 7 OS and then restore backup to that drive. Then I will have 2 OS to choose from.
