I don't remember how or when I made a change in File Explorer, but each time I call it up now, I get a slow moving progress bar in the bar where it identifies the location. I noticed there in the search bar it shows where it is going: "search (J:) Jack" as an example.

How do I stop this? It takes a lot of time, depending on the folder.

    This might maybe help:

    1. Open File Explorer.

    2. Click/tap inside the search box, then select the search suggestion (ex: *.bmp) that you want to delete, and press the Delete key.

  3. to hide this advert.

Very odd. Suddenly it no longer does this.

You can open Task Manager then Performance tab and watch the different views during the event. "J" drive? How many drives do you have? No specs in your profile.

Thanks, MasterChief. I have three internal (1 1TB, 1 80GB and 1 40GB - no problems), two external (1 500GB and 1 124GB - no problems) and an NAS 1 TB hard drive with a USB 3.o external hard drive attached. Needless to say, I have plenty of storage.

As I said above, the problem seems to have cleared itself.
