Gmail indicates there are 42 unread mail. Delete removes mail but each time WLM is opened again the same mail shows and also under my IPS Virgin. Is there a procedure to permanently remove this mail. Error has just recently started.

Try going to GMail.com and deleting them there.

It sound like you're running IMAP.

Hi BobbyScot, I use Gmail IMAP as Steve suggested. Gmail is the Server as I understand and my client is Mozilla Thunderbird. I Delete mail in TB - but it remains on Gmail as the allocated storage is around 11Gb's (from memory).
I'll have to go and confirm in Gmail and report back. Neil.

Thank you for responses, with Virginmedia they use IMAP.
I find that 42 files require deleting and several times, just reappear again.

Just checked my gmail and storage is 15GB's and I'm only using 1.5GB's. If I Delete mail > Shift + Delete > this removes completely.
If I use Delete button in TB - it stays on Gmail but is deleted from comp. Neil.

Gmail are still showing under Gmail and I have no Gmail account, therefore not able to make changes. Just e-mail numbers ever increasing in number on a perpetual basis and unable to stop them. Apparently all my other e-mail addresses are being stored additionally into gmail. Suggestions as to procedure to rectify this error will be most appreciated. Bob.

I have never applied, installed or used Gmail as an E-mail address. It appears that all my E-mails though deleted are still current back to August 2015. No matter how often that I delete, they just spring back as "Saved" and can be opened for reading. All this material is just habouring space on the HD.

Do you or your wife have a smartphone with Android on it? Did you create a Gmail account on that phone and possibly sync your accounts? If so that would explain the unread Gmail messages.

lj50, you have a good point, however neither my wife or I have connection with smart phone or use of Android but my wife has general puprpose portable phone that uses Virginmedia connection. The error has become a pest, as everytime that I connect WLM, a huge amount of unread mail that dates back to August 2015, repeats to show after several deletes.. Error has only started since Sunday last and no extra software has been added or deleted.

So why is the title to your thread-> Why Gmail not delete?

Virginmedia - you should be able to read the mail via a web browser. If so - delete the mail from there...aka the source.

Steve, Gmail will not delete from my WLM. I have searched all parts of Virginmedia Account and find no reference to Gmail but to Outlook mail address. Catagory section in Virginmedia, Gmail is a heading and can be opened to the various tasks. What has made Gmail appear? and how can it be removed, to stop all my other e-mails being displayed and opened to read?

Neil thanks for the read. Unfortunately as said, I have no Google account or Gmail. I can not understand as to why my current email address displays "gmail" after the "Inbox - delete ". Web pages most visited are BBC,PCworld,Maplin and Google as the search engine. In August 2016 computer OS was cleaned installed and since then the monthly MS updates. Gmail certainly appears to be deep installed but fails to show other than in WLM.

A quick check in the Registry, shows three references for Gmail as under "Unblockable Domain" value 1. No further references found on gmail using Regedit.

I just performed a registry search and didn't find any references to GMail.

A screenshot of WLM is what would be nice.

Any and every computer can do screenshots.
You hit the Print Screen button on your keyboard.
You then bring up MS Paint and paste into it.
You do File Save As to create a file and then attach it to a post.
