    Question is in the subject...

My PC is being repaired and fortunatly I was able to borrow another from a friend.

His system has 8GB of memory but he's running a 32b Win 7 OS.

So once again, can I switch from 32b Win 7 to 64b Win 10?

I understand a full reformat will be neccesary if it's possible.

To install a 64-bit version of Windows, you need a CPU that's capable of running a 64-bit version of Windows. The benefits of using a 64-bit operating system are most apparent when you have a large amount of random access memory (RAM) installed on your computer, typically 4 GB of RAM or more. In such cases, because a 64-bit operating system can handle large amounts of memory more efficiently than a 32-bit operating system, a 64-bit system can be more responsive when running several programs at the same time and switching between them frequently.

So if your PC doesn't meet the above requirements, you have to stay with a 32 bit.

Hi wildfire, I go along with MrBill. 8GB's of RAM is OK but you will need to establish 64bit capability first. I have 2 Desktops and 1 HP Laptop running 64bit W10 Pro and Home with 8GB's of RAM OK. Neil.

Thanks guys, the system is fully 64bit capable.

The question was regarding taking advantage of MS's free upgrade offer and switching from 32 to 64 bit or will my friend have to stick to 32 bit because that is the architecture of his current OS?
