I've followed the directions for removing a network connection. It is apparently gone. Yet the size of the content of the shared Public folder has not been removed.

I do not know where this content is being stored and not deleted. I have looked at the C:\ in command mode and the 'Public" folder is not there.

All I want to do is free up that space and not use the HD as a network drive.

I do however want to save the desktop content, programs etc.

For now, I'm taking the drive off system.

Are you talking about C:\Users\Public folder or is it some other folder ?

Have you looked in Recycle Bin ?

Yes, the Public folder-- the one available at setup is the only one I had been using to share files.

Currently, since I tried to delete the content, the Public folder still appears but is greyed out.

The goal is to remove shared file content in that public folder and the network connection and to just use the HD as a work disk only.

Can administrator functions clear this out or at least empty it completely?

Thanks for your response. I'd rather not have to wipe the disk which is bootable and has some work on it.

I'll check the recycle bin again but I already did that. Am I looking for something other than a folder called 'Public' in there?

Since the folder was full of media the delete process would have taken noticeable time.
I'll check recycle again but I think that some administrative or CMD procedure is needed.

I looked at the C:\ drive in cmd and ran a directory. Nothing seemed to be the right large size (100Gb at least.)

The solution I've found so far is from recalling how DOS works.

I have more space on the drive by opening the correct directory

CMD > C:\users\lon\ > Run a DIR find Public and DEL the folder. Usable space has returned. After any replies to finish the cleaning job I'll mark the thread solved. This was my quick fix. There may be other solutions needed.

Open Network & Sharing Center > on left Change advanced sharing... > Turn OFF public folder sharing for all connections.

    Ok.

Thanks for answering. Does this solution provide a way to turn the
Public folder back on? For my work disk it may become needed again to transfer the the completed job.
