    Hello,
I have a HP laptop that had Windows 8.1 on it. I am trying to put Windows 7 Pro on the laptop. Now, Windows 8.1 is corrupted and nothing will load. I cannot even load Windows 7 from the DVD drive to format the hard drive so I can load Windows 7. I am getting very frustrated now. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    David

Have you changed the boot order in the BIOS.

Hi wksda623, I believe you need to change settings in BIOS to enable DVD to Launch properly. Booting a Windows 8 comp from a DVD/CD

If you can follow the instructions on this YouTube Video it works. Neil.

If you can't Boot into W8/8.1 you may need to do a Fresh install of W8/8.1 and get the comp running again to enable the above procedure to take place.

    Changing the computer boot order
If computer does not restart in HP Recovery Manager, you can change the computer boot order,
which is the order of devices listed in BIOS where the computer looks for startup information. You can
change the selection for an optical drive or a USB flash drive.
    To change the boot order:
    1. Insert the HP Recovery media you created.
    2. Restart the computer, quickly press esc, and then press f9 for boot options.
    3. Select the optical drive or USB flash drive you want to boot from.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions

Ok, I changed the boot order and trying to install Windows 7 on the hard drive. But, I only get the screen saving that Windows is starting up and it stays on that screen indefinitely for some reason.

Did you choose your CD\DVD drive as you primary boot device. After the OS installs the boot order will automatically change back to Internal Hard Drive. I have two HP laptops that's how I do it.

You need to go into BIOS and change the UEFI Mode as W7 is not compatible with it. How to Downgrade from W8.1 to W7

If you can't get into W8.1 - you may have to Format the drive and install W7 from there. You will need your Product Key and you'll probably have to phone for Activation.

There will be a large number of updates to re-install and you may have to install your m/b drivers. Neil.

If you didn't perform the Secure Boot change before/when you started your W7 Pro DVD, the Boot Manager is probably corrupted and will need fixing.
Try MS MrFixit to see if that will correct it. If it doesn't you will have to do it manually through the Registry. Neil.

Will the win7 dvd boot and get to the install screen? If so, you will have to select the "advanced" option and delete the exiting partitions, create a new one and then install.
