I have upgraded my desktop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 today.
There's not much big issue on upgrading, except for my desktop had lost internet connection!
When I ran the network diagnostics, it shows this message:
Ethernet does not have a valid IP configuration!
Even restarting the modem and pc didn't solve the problem.

What should I do now? There's no compatibility issues with my modem when it checks my pc specs during the reservation period.

Hi scgoh123. In Windows 10 if you open Device Manager and expand the Network adapter category what Network adapter do you have installed?

It could be that you just need to update the driver for your Network adapter but before we try that have a look at this link, Ethernet Doesn’t Have A Valid IP Configuration’ Notification in Windows 8.1.

The article applies to Windows 8.1 but the same process will work on Windows 10.

    There are 4 network adapters:
    Intel Ethernet Connections I217-V
    TAP-Windows Adapter V9
VMWare Virtual Ethernet Adapter for Vmnet 1
VMWare Virtual Ethernet Adapter for Vmnet 8

Ruling out the third and fourth one, I don't know which one is in use.

And yeah, I noticed something. When I cold booted the PC internet works fine, but not when I restarted the PC.

The Intel Ethernet Adapter would be the one that you would disable and re-enable according to the article that I posted. Have you followed the instructions yet?

I've tried that, but it doesn't work.

Maybe I need to emphasize that this only happens when I restarted the PC, not cold-booting the PC.

Did you run the ipconfig commands from Command Prompt to see if that helps?

If that doesn't solve the problem then try installing the network driver from this link, Network Adapter Driver for Windows 10.

UPDATE: Sorry for the late reply, because I am busy recently.
I have tried installing the network adapter and updating the current ones but it doesn't work. Once the PC is restarted, Internet is no longer accessible.
Furthermore Windows 10 keeps giving performance problems to my Desktop.

I will just roll back to Windows 8.1 and see what happens.

Before rolling back to Windows 8, run through this procedure and see if your Internet connectivity is restored. Click Start< type Command Prompt, right click Command Prompt that comes up in the list and select Run as administrator.

After the command prompt window opens type the following commands:

    netsh int ip reset

    netsh winsock reset

After that is done reboot the computer and see if you have Internet connectivity.

    Thanks Evan Omo.
By the way I've rolled back the OS back to Windows 8.1. Everything's fine after that, just need to reinstall back Google Chrome which had made my parents frustrated.

Alright so restoring the operating system back to Windows 8.1 solved the problem then?

    Yeah.
But seems that it's impossible for me to search for 'Thread Tools' and mark the topic as 'Resolved' in mobile devices.
