Resolved PC doesn't recognize my Garmin

I'm trying to update the maps on my Garmin Nuvi 205. I paid for lifetime maps, so I might as well. I done this before and I always seem to have trouble. The last time was over a year ago and I don't remember how I resolved it.
The problem is my computer doesn't seem to recognize the gps unit when I connect it to a USB port. I've tried several different ports. I've rebooted the computer. When I go to Devices and Printers it doesn't show up. It seems like the gps unit itself recognizes the connection because it beeps and powers up when I connect it. The problem seems to be my computer not recognizing it. I went to Garmin's website and downloaded the latest USB drivers. When I open up the Garmin Express program, it says that it is not connected.
